Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister Sharmila Farooqui while hailing the Senate for approving a bill providing protection to women against sexual harassment at workplaces, said that the bill will empower and dignify women in every sector of life.

"The bill will protect women working in agriculture, industry and other working places and no one could now dare to harass them. The sexual harassment is a threat to women at workplaces, which will now come to an end with the approval of this bill," she said. The advisor said that it was also a major achievement of the PPP government that it had passed such an important bill. It would play a great role to secure women rights and end gender discrimination.

She said that it was the will of Benazir Bhutto that women pass their lives with dignity in every sector of life and the PPP government under the dynamic leadership of President Zardari has fulfilled her will. She said that the PPP has also launched a drive to raise awareness among the women in Sindh. She asked PPP women leaders and workers to raise awareness at grassroots level among women according to the new law. Women could play a significant role in every sector of life therefore they should not be harassed, she said.

The advisor said it is imperative that the culprits harassing women be brought to justice and punished so that no such acts occur in future. She said that women were being killed in Sindh ruthlessly in the name of honour killing and gang-raped, therefore, the PPP government is introducing laws to stop such brutalities. "The government is also planning to form women police stations across Sindh to protect women. These police stations will also provide proper information about laws, women rights and ensure justice," she said.
